Booking the Microform Reader / Printer (available online!)

Q: Am I permitted to make a booking?

A: If you have a valid Acadia Library Borrowing Card / ID you are permitted to make bookings for the machine.


Q: What do I need to do to make a machine booking?

A: Reader / Printer Machine reservations can be made online, in-person at the Access Desk (have your library card / ID with you), email (access-circ@acadiau.ca), or by phone ( 902 585 1249).


Q: Are there limitations on how many bookings I can have, or on how long my booking can be?

A: There are two limitations placed on bookings. At any given time, a patron cannot have more than 2 bookings on their account, for either study rooms or the reader / printer. Those 2 bookings cannot exceed a total of 4 hours in length.


Q: Is there a fee for using the machine?

A: Use of the machine is free but fines are imposed for remaining past your booked time. Please see the Access Desk to create an additional booking, if you feel you will be staying longer. There is also a fee of 10 cents per page for printing.


Q: When the time arrives for my booking to begin, what do I need to do?

A: You need to come to the Access Desk with your Library Card or Acadia ID card to sign out the reader / printer. Only the person who booked the machine can sign it out. You will be given a token, at that time, that needs to be returned to the Desk when you are finished with the machine. This will release the booking from your name and prevent fines from accruing.


Q: What happens if I arrive late for my booking?

A: The machine is released, for use by others, if the person who booked it has not charged it out within 15 minutes of the reserved booking time..


Q: How far in advance can I make a booking?

A: You can make a booking up to one week in advance.

Viewing and Canceling Bookings

Q: I have forgotten what time my booking begins. How can I find out?

A: You can check your booking online, click on “View or cancel your current bookings”, and then log in. Your current booking(s) will be displayed.

Q: I no longer need the machine. What should I do?

A: You can cancel the booking online, click on “View or cancel your current bookings”, and then log in. Your current booking(s) will be displayed with an option to cancel if you wish.

Q: I made a mistake doing an online booking and the times for which my booking is scheduled are not what I want. How can I change it?

A: You cannot change a booking online but you can cancel it and then create a new one. To cancel go online, click on “View or cancel your current bookings”, and then log in. Your current booking(s) will be displayed with an option to cancel.

Fines and Regulations

Q: Is there any penalty for staying on the machine longer than planned?

A: The token given to you when you sign out the machine should be returned to the Access Desk 5 minutes before the hour or half hour (eg. 10:55 or 2:25). Fines of $5.00 are levied on late returns. Fines begin to accumulate as soon as you are overdue.


Q: How can I avoid fines?

A: To avoid late fees, we suggest that you set your watch, or Microsoft Office Outlook, to remind you, or check your current bookings online to view the time.
