Establish your access

Before you can begin your Library research, you must first ensure you have completed the required setup. Steps 1 and 2 are essential. Step 3 is optional.

1. Obtain Your Library Card and Network Access

All Acadia students registered in Distance Education courses or programmes receive an Acadia ID card through Open Acadia or Acadia Divinity College and are also set up with a computer account as well as a username and a password for the Acadia network.

Once these are in place you have the "keys" you need to access Library resources and services. The Acadia ID card functions as a Library card and the network account allows you to identify yourself as an Acadia student through the VPN client when off-campus. (See step 2).

Establishing your Acadia status is important because only current Acadia students, faculty and staff are eligible to access licensed electronic resources.

2. Set Up Access to Acadia Electronic Resources from Off-Campus

There are two ways to access Acadia Library Electronic resources

  • The VPN (Virtual Private Network) client provides Acadia students with the means to login from off-campus (through their ISP) using their Acadia usernames and passwords. You can download and install the VPN client using the instructions provided by Technology Services.
  • Clientless VPN install using a secure web site.  To access this resource, connect to http://tinyurl.com/acadia-vpn and log in with your Acadia network credentials (ie 093842d for students, jsmith for staff/faculty). Once logged in you will be taken you to the library page, as if you were on campus.

If you have any difficulty with this process, contact Technology Services at helpdesk@acadiau.ca or 1-888-609-3330 (Toll Free)

3. Obtain an ASIN Card for On-Site Privileges at Other Canadian University Libraries

ASIN card

If you are registered in a course at Acadia but would actually find it easier to borrow from another university library, we can help! You must first obtain an ASIN card from the Vaughan to use along with your Acadia ID. Once you have this, you can borrow from most Canadian university libraries when you visit in person. Contact us at disted-library@acadiau.ca for further information.
