Study rooms

A limited number of study rooms are available in the Library for use by students and Liaison Librarians working with students. The larger study rooms are designated for groups of 3 or more people. Individuals or parties of two must book a smaller room while the Viewing Room (Room 314) is reserved for those wishing to view videos.

Reserving a study room

A valid Acadia ID is required to book a study room. Room booking reservations must be made in-person at the Access Desk.

For information about study room availability, you are welcome to consult the monitor at the entrance to the Library. A student may have only two bookings of 2 hours or less on their account at any one time. During peak use times, we suggest that you reserve a room in advance. Bookings can be made up to three months in advance. Check your library account to view your upcoming room bookings.

Signing out a room key

Key sign-outs are handled at the Access Desk. A valid Acadia ID is required to sign out a study room key. Only the person who booked the room can sign out the key ~ this applies to ALL room bookings, including ones for group meetings.

Rooms are released for use by other students if the person who booked the room has not charged out the key within15 minutes of the reserved booking time.

Room keys are not to be taken out of the Library. If you must leave the Library for a few minutes, please leave the key with staff at the Access Desk.

Renewing a room key

A valid Acadia ID is required to renew a study room key.
If a student has 2 consecutive bookings for the same study room, the key will be automatically renewed by Access Desk staff.  In all other cases, the key must be renewed at the Access Desk 5 minutes before the due time for the first booking
If 2 members of a group have back-to-back bookings for the same room, the key must be returned on time by the first student and then charged out to the second student.

Fines

Fines of $5.00 per hour or part thereof are levied on late key returns. Fines begin to accumulate as soon as the key is overdue. To avoid late fees, we suggest that you set your watch or Outlook to remind you when the key is due or check your library account to view the time when your room key is due.

Friend finder

Library staff are not permitted to relay information about room bookings to anyone other than the person who made the booking. Feel free to use the "Friend Finder" bulletin board near the vending machines to let others know where to find you.

Study room etiquette

Please respect others who are also using the study rooms by keeping the noise to a minimum and by placing your garbage in containers provided in the public areas.

Other study spaces in the library

During peak periods when study rooms are fully booked, we encourage you to use other areas in the Library. For quiet study, there are workspaces on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Floors. As well, the Quiet Reading Room on the Main Level is a designated quiet space. For group project work, feel free to use the tables in the Reference Area on the Main Floor.
