ACADIA ALERT - Delayed Campus Opening (Weather)

Acadia University will delay opening campus on Monday, January 19, 2026 until 1:00pm. All classes starting at 1:00pm and later will continue as scheduled. Conditions on campus will be assessed throughout the morning and if there is a need to remain closed a follow up message will be sent.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus until it opens. Residences will be accessible, and Wheelock Dining Hall will be open.

Daniel Francis Higgins

Daniel Higgins was an Acadia graduate of 1859 and was a professor of Mathematics at Acadia from 1861-1898. He was also the Mathematical Examiner for the Council of Public Instruction in Nova Scotia. He died in 1902. The D.F. Higgins Library Fund for Mathematics was endowed in 1928 by George E. Higgins with a principal gift of $1,000. George Higgins graduated from Acadia in 1892 and studied law at Cornell and New York law schools. He managed several estates as Secretary and Assistant Treasurer of Eastman Co., New York. In 1924 he moved to California to become Director of the West Coast Bond & Mortgage Co. and Pasadena Mutual Building and Loan Co. He died on March 1, 1932.
