Local Girls Get Revenge on Halifax Academy

The Wolfville High School girls’ basketball team had a mixed season in 1938. In early March they journeyed to Halifax for a series of games with the girls of the Halifax Academy. The High School lost to the Halifax Academy B team on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, the girls won their first game of the season, beating the Halifax C team 25 to 5. Hazel Duncanson scored 14 points for the winners, while Shirley Cox added 6 and Leona Lake 5. A few weeks later, the Halifax girls paid a visit to Wolfville where the local girls got their revenge on the Academy B team, beating them 15 to 10. Hazel Duncanson, Leona Lake and Shirley Cox scored for the High School. Several members of this team, including Millicent Forsythe-Smith and Barbara Harris went on to play basketball for Acadia University.
