Bloomers Better Than Skirts
This photo shows the Sophomore Class women’s hockey team at Acadia University in 1919. Women’s hockey was a popular interclass sport at Acadia during this period. The women also played teams from nearby towns; there were a number of women’s teams in town leagues throughout Nova Scotia. The bloomers and middy blouses worn by these players are in contrast to the long wool skirts worn by women hockey players just a few years earlier.
