Shamrocks Claim Crown for Third Time

The highly successful Shamrocks, a town team from Wolfville, were the champions of the Kings County Junior Hockey League in 1906, 1907 and 1908. In 1907 a game between the Shamrocks and Horton Collegiate Academy was proclaimed “one of the best games played in the Evangeline Rink this season...within ten minutes the HCA team scored two goals. By this time the Shamrocks began to get their joints working and their hockey sticks also and when the bell rang the score was 4-3 in their favor.” During the 1907 season they were able to beat rivals Canning 8 to 3 and Middleton by a score of 13-0.

In early January 1908, the Wolfville paper reported “The Shamrocks, of this town defeated the Canning team by a score of 8-6....” In February, “the Shamrocks defeated the Kentville hockeyists at Evangeline Rink on Tuesday evening by a score of 4-2. The boys are playing good hockey this winter and are putting forward every effort to retain the trophy of the Kings County Hockey League.” The Shamrocks continued to play well in 1908 and were able to claim the league title for the third straight year.
