Acadia Tops Kings for NS Championship

The 1931 Acadia football team had the satisfaction of beating St Francis Xavier University (NS) 21 to 3 in late October, while in the Nova Scotia championship game, they beat King’s College (NS) 13 to 0 and 9 to 0 in a two-game total point series. “The Fred Kelly coached Acadians were on their toes all the time and took advantage of the breaks....Foote, Barteaux, Ralston and Fountain were the stars of the backfield, while Tedford made some spectacular saves. As usual Anderson and Gunter were the picks of the forwards....” Although Acadia lost the Maritime title to the University of New Brunswick, they finished the season on a high note: “Outplaying and out generaling the Dalhousie fifteen through the entire 70 minutes of play, Fred Kelly’s Acadians won a decisive victory over their old rivals....The Wolfville squad controlled the play at all times and were especially strong in the scrum....”
