Women Thrill Audience with Daring Feats of Tumbling

The Tumbler’s Club was organized in 1926. Although not an intercollegiate sport, it attracted elite women athletes who represented Acadia in sports such as basketball and hockey. The focussed physical training and agility required for the Tumblers aided other sport. The aims of the 12-member club were “to secure form, poise, balance and grace in the execution of bodily movements.” The club was also an outlet for talented athletes to perfect skills in a venue that, because it was not competitive, was marginally acceptable as physical activity for women. The club put on one public performance a year which was popular with residents of Wolfville and area.
