Ice Gives Way to Grass as Women Take Up Ground Hockey

Ground hockey became a sport at Acadia in 1926. For the first two years, it was played on an occasional basis; the Acadia women faced teams from other schools such as Kings College in non-league games. In 1928 and 1929 Acadia played a home and away series with perennial rival Dalhousie University. After a break of ten years, the women took up ground hockey once again, only to have it suspended during World War II. In 1946, Acadia women re-formed the ground hockey team and by 1947, the sport was flourishing; there were both varsity and junior varsity teams.
