Wolfville Women’s Hockey Team 1914
This Wolfville team played the Acadia University women’s hockey team in 1914. The player on the left side of the back row has been identified as Violet Sleep; others on the team, although unidentified in the photo, are Grace Shaw, Miss Baisley, Minnie Godfrey, M. Coldwell, Marie Wilson and Ethel Mitchell. Even hampered by cumbersome long wool skirts, there were many enthusiastic women hockey players during this period. This Wolfville team would have played women’s teams from nearby towns such as Windsor and Kentville as well as teams from Acadia University and the Acadia Ladies Seminary.
