Acadia Senior Women Take Title

Basketball was the only interclass sports competition for Acadia’s women students during the 1920-21 year. In league play, “the deciding game between the Seniors and Juniors, was in doubt until the last whistle, and was only won by a basket scored in the last ten seconds.” Three women on the championship senior team – Marjorie Wickwire, Jean Foote and Georgie Spicer– were on the women’s varsity team, the first time women competed in an intercollegiate league. While wearing uniforms that would be considered excessive by today’s standards, women basketball players had shed long skirts for loose “middy” blouses and bloomers.
